Summary0007608: Flow of tracker needs a revamp
Description

The Mantis bug tracker as a whole is excellent. Second best one I have found on the web. The flow of it is whats stopping it from being 0000001. It's too... cluttered and plain. A new style, one with better flow, would make this bug tracker 0000001 in my view.

Your request is vague, to say the least. If you have specific suggestions for improvement, by all means voice them; otherwise I'll close this as invalid.

You could combine all the collapsible boxes into one box which change when you click the buttons:

I don't want to discourage others from voicing opposing opinions, but mine are as follows:

A tabbed interface like that would require JavaScript, but Mantis currently uses JavaScript only for optional niceties, not for essential functionality, and I think we want to keep it that way. Mantis should not require JavaScript. So there would still have to be a non-JavaScript alternative to that layout, which might look a lot like the current layout. The rather substantial differences between the two might be confusing for someone who uses Mantis in both JavaScript-enabled and -disabled contexts.

Also, you're proposing a change which would make information more hidden. You'd have to click somewhere to see the relationships, for example; in the current Mantis layout, relationship information is immediately visible without needing to click anywhere. This change is bad from an interaction design standpoint; it's said that you should make things as obvious and plainly visible as possible. (This is why those unlabeled icons in toolbars in programs like Office are so awful -- you have to hover over them before you get a tooltip that tells you what the button does. If they had just put the text there in the first place instead of hiding it, one could click the correct button faster.)

Perhaps you will be pleased to know that work is underway to integrate Smarty, a template engine, into Mantis. This should enable anyone to create new themes for Mantis. I'm not sure if complex changes like changing sequential boxes into tabs would be possible, but it will certainly be a step in the right direction for customization. See 0004227 and 0006628.

I have submitted a different proposal for new layout in issue 0012339.

Have added a screenshot based upon 'usable mantis', the tabbing is quite simple and flexable and requires little changing.
If usable can post the rest of the code pieces also

With the new "Modern UI" available as of MantisBT 2.0, I believe this request has been addressed.
